It has come to my attention that we have quite a few aspiring writers on the forum and I was wondering who amongst us would be interested in a friendly writing competition?
The contest would be less geared around the technical end of writing and more toward the writer's ability to entertain and weave a story. I might even drum up a nice prize for the winner.
rules and judges could be determined by the board at a later date, for now I'd just like to know if anyone would be interested in participating or even just in reading the other entries.
Who's on board for a writing contest?

I was thinking short story. We could start with a prologue for round one, then progress into chapters and so on. But that's just me. I'm open to ideas

This actually has me quite excited! I've wrote a few novels before (never published and lost them all to the ages) but I've been working on a story idea for awhile and this would be the perfect kick in the ass to get me into writing mode. I think the Mods should be Judges and maybe one or two handpicked normal members (They can't be ones who are participating of course) And the idea of a prologue now to get it started off is a perfect idea. Maybe three rounds? Prologue, and then two chapters. The second chapter being the final round. Sounds about the right size eh? As for the prize, nothing lavish of course. Unless you have an extra copy of a signed R.A Salvatore novel (or could convince him to put one up for the prize) Would be pretty epic. Or even work some magic and get him to be the judge. Bang your head together with the mods and we'll see where this heads, excellent idea!

I'm definitely down for submitting some writing but I'm not sure how I feel about a contest. I'm not really the competitive type and I'd be too anxious to submit anything in to a competition.

Crap, here I thought that, as an admin, I would get out of having to write by being a judge.

Yes! I can continue wasting what little potential I might have had.

Yes! I can continue wasting what little potential I might have had. Or I could revoke admin rights... But we both know I need you, Captain.

Hey folks, I am currently writing up a General Information and Rules post for the writing contest. If you are interested in participating or judging, let us know. My current goal is to have this thing start in June, which will give participants some time to think about what they'll be writing and judges some time to prepare themselves for the horror coming their way.
I joke.
Probably.
Bleeding eyes really aren't a joke... unless it is someone else and then you can just point and laugh while wallowing in shameful Schadenfreudenal glory.

Trying to work out a prize at the moment. We'll see how that goes with my wizened old brain...
