Jay Lake passed away yesterday morning after years of battling cancer. He was a father, a friend to many in the SFF community, and a prodigious writer: publishing nine novels (with more on the way) and over three hundred stories in a little over a decade. He was open about this cancer and blogged about his experiences, struggles, and treatment from just a short while after his diagnosis in 2008 until late April, when his partner began updating in his stead. If you haven't read anything by Jay Lake, I'd recommend doing so.

That's one impressive body of work. Sorry to see him go before I could get into his writing, but I'll bet I will now I've seen a bit of it.
Rest in peace, sir.

Livejournal just sent me a reminder that his birthday is coming up on the 6th.
For those looking to get read some of his books, Green might be the most accessible place to start. It may also be the easiest of his books to find, as several of his older books have been allowed to slip out of print (though some have been released as e-books). I'm personally partial to The City Imperishable books, but that is a level of weird that many people probably aren't as fond of.
