I run a small D&D 3.5 group in FR. 2 sessions ago we were joined by a newbie to D&D and we're still in the process of teaching him things. This saturday they faces off against one of the bigger villains in the campaign, a possessed former ranger. I kept on dropping hints throughout the fight that something was a bit "off". After some collateral casualties they downed the considerably stronger opponent he drops his two swords to the ground, while the wizard is identifying an amulet he had on him the barbarian reaches down to pick up the swords (that were confirmed magical). "Roll a will saving throw" *guy rolls a 2* "You leap towards the nearest patron, roll for attack" *guy rolls 20 20 19* "You neatly decapitate the poor patron" After many rounds of trying to subdue the barbarian, and a further collateral casualty they manage to wrest the blades off of his hands. Guess he never heard of "No touchy magical weapons before they get identified" You might have guessed it... Sentient, very much evil, quite high ego score... I will cherish the stares of pure horror on the more experienced players on the moment of "I pick up the swords"

We'll there was this time I suspected a trap, said don't pull the chord. But the other player either didn't hear me or played his character dumb or plain chaotic. Take your pick. He pulled the chord for the doorbell as I uttered the Noooooo... And released a big slab of stone that fell on top of us. Of course his character was nimble enough to sidestep the falling slab. Mine not so much, took the exact number of my htpoimt total that was 72. Thankfully I had high con and managed the system shock.
And that's just one incident... Let's just say making use of a Wand of Wonder while on a boat.... Bad idea.

Our clerics had a bad time.
One was hung after an unsuccessful attempt to free an NPC that was doomed to the same fate.
One was decapitated by a skeleton.
One, brand new and running through a two-player tutorial, decided to break a magic mirror, which promptly exploded. He died. I barely survived.
Our half-elf wandered into the S&M chamber of a local noble, which was disturbing but not deadly.

This is why I'd love to get into D&D properly, moments like these that you just can't help but laugh at, unless of course they're happening to you... I can just picture the unified expressions of horror xD

Well in general the funny D&D stories generally fall into two categories: The first one we've seen here: Player Fumbles The second category is generally funny only to DM's: DM deviousness resulting in an unanticipated outcome Personally I find the second category more amusing (as a DM myself), but if I started sharing those I'd be giving away trade secrets to the enemy

Oh my!! I bought "D&D for Dummies" a few years ago, but I've struggled to find anyone interested. I'm thinking I need to reread it because I've forgotten everything!

So far my group has wandered into the dwelling of a worshipper of Grazzt and two Orcus cult lairs. They're starting to fear umm everything
