Some of you may not be accustomed to IRC, so I thought I would provide some helpful tips for you.
Registration
The first thing that you want to do when entering chat for the first time is register your nickname. For sake of our sanity, this should be the same or similar to the one you use on the board. To register:
Commands
Some of you may already have some minor experience with IRC through other chat and not even know it.
/ME - An action command and probably the one that people are most familiar with despite not having used IRC before. It is a staple for roleplaying and quite useful when just messing about.
Example: /me slaps Robillard around a bit with a large trout. = Sargai slaps Robillard around a bit with a large trout.
Complicated Example: I created an alias for this command - /slap (/me slaps $1 around a bit with a large trout.). Thus /slap Robillard = Sargai slaps Robillard around a bit with a large trout.
/MSG - Use /msg NICK to open a private conversation with another member of chat.
/NOTICE - Used like /msg, but sends a short private message in chat instead of opening a new window.
/JOIN - Use this in conjunction with a #channelname to join another channel. This will come in handy if members choose to create a roleplay group.
/PART - Leaves the channel you are currently in. Use /partall to leave all channels.
/IGNORE - Use this in conjunction with a nickname to ignore a user. To remove the ignore type /ignore -r NICK.
Mibbit Chat Options
Sound Notifications - While Mibbit does throw notifications into the tab window to try and get your attention, they are easy to miss at the best of times. If your attention is elsewhere, you probably won't notice. Enabling sound notifications allow you to keep track of chat while multitasking away. To enable them go to Prefs>Sounds and select whichever options you prefer. Usually, I limit it to newmsg, userjoin, and userpart, but others may be more social.
Smileys - General consensus so far suggests that the default smileys suck. The good news is that you can change them to other sets of smileys. The bad news is that it seems to default each time you come in so that it hardly matters. If you still care, you can change them by going to Prefs>Smileys.

The first thing that you want to do when entering chat for the first time is register your nickname. For sake of our sanity, this should be the same or similar to the one you use on the board. To register:
- First, make sure that you are happy with your nickname. If you are unhappy with the one you entered the room with, you can switch with the /nick command: /nick NAME.
- Once you have your desired nickname, you will enter this command: /nickserv register PASSWORD EMAIL, replacing the obvious. You will be sent an email to confirm your registration.
- You will be required to identify yourself whenever you enter chat and may do so with this command: /identify PASSWORD.
- You can simplify this step further by creating an alias for the command. In the Prefs menu, find the Alias tab and create a new one. In the Match box, enter /id. In the Command box, enter /identify PASSWORD. This will allow you to use a /id command when entering the room instead of the longer version.
