I named this thread "Costuming" because I figure it's a safe bet that on a fantasy-based board that's a popular use for sewing, but really any type of sewing or garment construction is welcome here. I personally don't sew as much as I used to, but lately I've been getting into the local SCA group via archery and have been (slowly) putting together some decent garb to wear to events. My persona is Norse viking era, and so far I've only made my underdress. I haven't photographed the whole dress yet and these photos are just in-progress shots of the embroidery I did on it - soon maybe I'll get around to posting updated pics. So for anyone who's interested, here's some seam and hem embroidery I've done, plus a sampler of random patterns I was trying out. The stitches on the actual dress are, as far as I researched, acceptably accurate for the region and time period. If there are any other needle & thread/sewing machine types out there, I'd love to see what you've done!

Oh wow D: Its beautiful! Your stitches are perfect!
I don't sew myself yet, but I have been working (fake) leather armors and I dress up regularly ( I volunteer at a local Renn Faire) in garb. Maybe we should all share photos of our garb sometime!

Yes! That'd be awesome. I don't know how heavily I'll ever get into the whole SCA/renn thing; I really love doing archery, and i think the whole LARP/cosplay thing is fun in small doses tempered with reality, but I dont' think I'll ever go crazy with it. But I do love all the pretty, pretty clothes and embellishments. Plus I like the excuse to use embroidery. Also, viking clothes are wickedly comfortable. I could never do one of the more stuffy eras.
I'd love to see your armor! I am so envious of people who can do that kind of work.

So I'm planning on building a set of Mandalorian Armor soon (Think Boba Fett with different colors) and I have no experience with molding, paint or metal work. I'm sure this'll turn out real good. Seriously though, I'm taking great pains to get it perfect. I'll try to post some in-progress pics once I get it started. (Hopefully sometime in the next few months.)

I'm working on a set of Gladiator Mage armor from Neverwinter Online in custom colors. I have absolutely no history with costuming either, so I'm glad to see I'm not the only newbie!

That will look pretty cool - post some in progress pics if you get the chance! And yeah, once we fail a couple of times it will be nice to have someone to vent to XD

You have to finish that costume and then go visit Cryptic if they're at PAX East next year xD

I can't sew or anything but I love to see what people can do. I think my favorite part of going to conventions is seeing the costumes people make.
