True enough, Robillard, he may have been lurking a bit. Hopefully, he will have something to say eventually.

Hello, my real name is Rachel although I usually go by rapunzel online. I'm a 36 year old married state university employee (I work at the library) and fledgling graduate history student. Not only am I new to these boards but I am new to the Drizzt series. Back when these books were first written, I was reading Shakespeare, Chaucer, Dickens, and other classic literature although I've had a love for fantasy since I was a little girl reading the Chronicles of Narnia. A couple of years later, I discovered Tolkien and fell in love. In addition, I was trying to write my own fantasy book (I still have it and likely will start writing again now that the semester is over). Since I did not want to be overly influenced by contemporary fantasy, I did not read any of it. Instead, I was attempting to base my fantasy on Celtic/Norse mythology similar to Tolkien. Around 2002-2003, I was working at Books a Million and occasionally I would look in the Sci-fi/fantasy section to put stock away. There was one series I thought about reading but never got the chance too. All I know is that it had a picture of a dark elf on it.
Then, this past Christmas, my boss gave us all gift cards to Barnes and Noble so I decided to get something fun to read since I had just finished another harrowing semester. I bought Homeland, thinking that if I didn't like it I hadn't wasted any of my own money. After reading it, I realized I would have to buy every one. Now, its only been a few months later, after another semester and I've already read all the books, including Night of the Hunter and the Sellswords trilogy. Since I rushed through reading them, I'm re-reading the books again and I've started to read the series to my husband. We just started the Legacy last night.
I look forward to good discussions of the books here. There aren't very many fans that I know of where I live and I've been lurking on the message board on Salvatore's site and Candlekeep.

Not only am I new to these boards but I am new to the Drizzt series. Welcome to the boards, Rapunzel~ There's actually quite a few people here who are new to the books so don't be afraid to start discussions about the earlier books! (Us old timers love to reminisce, too!) Bob Salvatore actually started out with a love of Tolkein, too. I guess all good things start with Tolkein! haha

My mom had the Tolkien books when I was little but I think they got lost on a move before I had the chance to read them. I loved reading as a kid, especially the Chronicles of Narnia and I ended up turning my bed into a battlefield/fantasy world with my stuffed animals (the land of tygra). I wrote some stories with them but then I got very silly around 13 years old when I thought writing stories involving my toys to be "uncool". I would love to go back in time and kick my 13 year old self in the butt for that. Anyway, I didn't get the chance to read the Tolkien books until the Fellowship of the Ring came out. Most of my teenage years was spent reading "serious" literature and it wasn't until my 20's that I started to have fun reading non-classic fiction books

Greetings fellow fans. I'm sort of awkward when it comes to introducing myself so I'm just going to jump right in to it.
My name is Shawn but you can call me Lore. I'm 25 years old and am currently employed as a bookseller. I'm an aspiring fantasy writer and am trying to get back on my feet after moving to a new city. I have even been considering going back to school. Before moving, I was living in a pretty bad neighborhood and I had most all of my books stolen. This includes all of my Salvatore books (even the signed ones). I never knew a thief would be interested in my books but I guess they nabbed them because I didn't own any valuable electronics.
I still have The Guide to Writing Fantasy and Science Fiction by Philip Athans which I had signed by Salvatore at a book signing for The Orc King. I didn't know who Philip Athans was when I first bought the book and I only got it because it contained a previously unpublished short story by Salvatore, Hugo Mann's Perfect Soul. In my humble opinion, it is the modern epitome of what science fiction is really about and is proof that it does not have to pertain to aliens, robots, or space travel. I would even say that it ranks right up there with one of my other favorite science fiction short stories, The Cold Equations by Tom Godwin.
I read all of Salvatore's early works in sets and so that is how I best remember them. Homeland, Exile, and Sojourn is my favorite trilogy and are also the first books I read by Salvatore. After that, my other favorites in the Drizzt series is The Thousand Orcs, The Lone Drow, and The Two Swords. I know a lot of people love Entreri (and how could they not?) but my favorite "villain" in the Drizzt series is King Obould Many-Arrows. I just wish the character had been expanded on a little more and that the entire rise of orc society had been explored more before the Transitions series.
Outside of Drizzt, the Cleric series was fantastic as was the Crimson Shadow trilogy. Honestly, and I may catch a lot of flak for this but I kind of wish Salvatore would stop writing Drizzt for a little while and focus on something else. Anything else, really. The last Drizzt book I read was The Last Threshold but the series had grown so stale for me by that point that I really only recall the events of Gauntlgrym and even that is a little hazy.
So I'm going to go ahead and quit rambling now. If anybody has any questions about me then feel free to ask. I might even answer a few of them. ;]

Welcome to the board, Shawn! Seems we share a name, I do think a duel might be in order for the rights of SUPREME SHAWN! Sorry my in-name-only doppelganger but I promised myself back in 2000 when The Sickness was released that I would never duel with someone who looks like David Draiman. =] And thank you for the welcome. Ohhh wah ah ah ah!

lol, Not the first time I've been told I favor him. I've even considered getting the facial piercings myself as I think they're quite awesome.
